EAST LONDON – The 8th annual Buyel’Ekhaya Festival, kicked off on Friday with a fashion show for the first time in its eight years of existence.

The new addition to the traditionally music-only festival, also doubled as a competition where the winners would be mentored by renowned designer David Tlale.

The Founder of Buyel’Ekhaya said the addition of the fashion competition was an attempt to keep the brand alive with new innovations.

Eight young designers showcased their designs in hopes of being picked for a invaluable industry experience under the Tlale’s tutelage.

“You are the game changers of this industry, you have a big mission to make sure that this industry does not die,” Tlale said moments before announcing the two winners.

With the fashion show done and dusted, revellers turned their attention to the main event, where DJ Black Coffee, AKA and Babes Wodumo were expected to perform.
